That's the "Service-key", or valet key. It misses the notch and therefore only fits the drivers door and the ignition lock, so glove box, trunk and the other compartments cannot be accessed with it.

It's perfect for only getting the transponder
Good to know it's still available.

Habe meinen Schlüssel von eBay nun auch erhalten und er passt Einwandfrei, auch am Kofferraumschloss ohne Probleme, heute werde ich ihn mal anlernen.
Einen Service-Schlüssel habe ich auch noch daheim, da sollte ja dann auch ein Transponder enthalten sein und zusätzlich habe ich mal bei meinem BMW Händler nachgefragt, ob es noch neue Service-Schlüssel gibt, den würde ich dann gleich neu bestellen.
Haben ist besser als brauchen.

Vielen Dank an alle Beteiligten und diesen Foren-Beitrag, ohne den hätte ich nun weder einen Ersatzschlüssel, noch die Info über den Service-Schlüssel.

I have now received my key from eBay and it fits perfectly, even on the trunk lock without any problems.
I still have a service key at home, which should also contain a transponder, and I've also asked my BMW dealer if there are any new service keys available, which I would then order straight away.
Having is better than needing.

Many thanks to everyone involved and this forum post, without it I would now have neither a spare key nor the info about the service key.

Buying the service key for 50€ just for the transponder is meaningless. If you need a new transponder, just buy the AK90 for 20€ and some Transponders and program as many as you like (Or send it to someone who can do it). What does make sense is to buy some spare Transponders. The originals get really rare, and, expensive as well.
Miky doesn't care, he can blame the costs on somebody else, so it's reasonable to go for the easiest solution.

Ein Transponder ist doch im Service-Schlüssel vorhanden oder nicht?
Mag sein das es etwas teuter ist aber ich bin dann am Ende glücklich, für insgesamt 75,00 € - 80,00 € einen vollfunktionsfähigen Ersatzschlüssel zu haben.
Kläre mich gerne auf, wenn ich etwas nicht korrekt verstanden habe.

There is a transponder in the service key, isn't there?
It may be a bit more expensive, but in the end I'm happy to have a fully functional replacement key for a total of €75.00 - €80.00.
Please enlighten me if I have not understood something correctly.

Yes, you are right, it is the easiest solution, but I am swabian (Schwabe) (and needed all together 6 new keys for my cars)

Ok, dann ist das verständlich.
Eine letzte Frage, es reicht der Service-Schlüssel, dort kann man den Transponder entnehmen, es muss nicht ein Generalschlüssel/Hauptschlüssel sein?
Der wäre nämlich noch mal ca. 30€ teurer und hat zwar eine Beleichtung aber kein Funk.

One last question, the service key is enough, you can remove the transponder from there, it doesn't have to be a master key?
It would be about 30€ more expensive and has a coating but no radio.

If you need just the Transponder, any key is just fine (beside the full-plastics "emergency key" where the transponder is molded inside, therefore hard to remove without damage, I assume).

Thanks Steffen, I'll have a look at the service key tonight and try to open it, if it works, which I assume it will, I'll order an extra one as a spare.

Did you buy it from the e-bacho seller and does it open the trunk without any problems, without any modifications? How is it possible? What is the explanation?
I understood that the only way to use it with the luggage rack was to modify the tip of the key.

I was in contact with e-bacho and explained the issue with the tip. Maybe they have considered it meanwhile.
